I doubt Ill get a response before I fix this. Here is how you can reinstall W8.1 by using the W8 product key in your notebook's BIOS. I wish the thought had crossed my mind that I would also need something to load my backup, but I guess I falsely assumed my windows 8.0 disk would do it.
